FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Full-time; 37.5 hours per week; 11 month

Salary Grade:     10 ($19.44 per hour)

Reports to:  Head Start Assistant Director, Head Start Director

 POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Head Start Director and Management Team, the Area Coordinator will perform all duties and job related services necessary to ensure program goals and philosophy. Will work closely with all Component Managers and will be required to travel extensively in service area and to the Central Office.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES / ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Assists Management Team to ensure compliance with Federal and State Guidelines, Head Start Performance Standards, and Agency / Program Policies and Procedures.
  2. Provides assistance with orientation, training, and ongoing evaluation of personnel within the assigned service area.
  3. Manages the coordination of Component services with all staff to ensure efficient implementation of Head Start objectives and work plans.
  4. Supervises all Head Start staff in assigned service areas and will assist in yearly evaluations. Provides the coordination and assists with the communication and integration of Head Start activities and services in program operations.
  5. Provides leadership in working with Head Start parent committees, Policy Council, and Advisory Boards; provides leadership in working with staff, parents, and community in understanding Head Start services and in developing support for program goals and activities.
  6. Demonstrates work habits that comply with agency personnel policies and procedures, and complete special assignments from the Head Start Director and Management Team.
  7. Adheres to strict confidentiality and professional practices.
  8. Completes and submits site evaluations and monitoring reports as requested to the Director and Management Team.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises all staff in assigned service areas.

ROLE QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum requirement of an Associate Degree in Early Childhood or related field.

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • A natural concern, empathy, and enjoyment of Head Start children and their families. Must have the ability to communicate openly and effectively with staff, parents, and children.
  • Evidence of emotional stability and maturity. Must be flexible and open to change. Adequate knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards, current policies, procedures, and licensing requirements.
  • Ability to provide training and technical assistance to staff, parents, and community agencies. Basic computer knowledge.
  • Must obtain pre-employment physical
  • Must obtain First Aid and CPR and keep updated.
  • Must secure and maintain up-to-date CLASS reliability.
  • Must maintain credential if applicable.
  • Travel in the service area is required; an agency vehicle may or may not be provided. If a vehicle is not provided, you must have a reliable vehicle and proof of liability insurance is required.
  • Over-night and/or extended travel in and out of state, to attend conferences and/or workshops is possible.
  • Must show proof (as necessary) of auto liability insurance.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to continue professional development.
  • Will assume related duties as assigned by the Head Start Director and Management Team.

  • Transporting supplies, materials, and equipment within the service area is required; therefore, must be able to bend, pack, lift and carry supplies, materials, and equipment (20-60#).
