Job Title: Head Start Mentor Coach
Location: Hamblen County
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Full-time; 37.5 hours per week; 10 month
Salary Grade: 11.A ($20.68 per hour)
Reports to: Curriculum & Assessment Manager, Head Start Director
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Mentor Coach is responsible for providing teaching staff with professional development support using the Practiced-Based Coaching Model to promote effective teaching practices. The Mentor Coach is also responsible for assessing the quality of adult-child interactions using the Classroom Assessment Scoring System, analyzing the results, and developing individual professional development plans as well as group training plans. Furthermore, the Mentor Coach will align coaching practices and strategies with curricula, school readiness goals, and the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework (HSELOF).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES / ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Develop rapport with teaching staff to sustain a collaborative coaching relationship.
- Conduct CLASS assessments and enter data into Head Start Child Plus Database.
- Analyze CLASS assessment data and generate reports compared to CLASS national averages.
- Develop a coaching priority list and training plans from CLASS assessment results.
- Complete weekly site visit logs that include specific coaching plans and resources to support staffs’ professional development.
- Submit week observations/reports/schedule to Education Manager.
- Support staff in developing individual professional goals with specific steps to achieve those
- Provide on-site coaching to support staff in achieving professional goals.
- Utilize a variety of coaching methods and techniques that support staff’s individual learning styles.
- Develop and conduct small and large group training on effective teaching practices.
- Welcome families to participate in their child’s learning activities in the classroom, at home, and in the community. Encourage parents to volunteer in the classroom to support their child and the program.
- Encourage parents, families, and community members to support our children and the program through gifts of time, goods, and/or monetary donations to ensure program local match (in-kind) as required to continue receiving federal funding.

Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, or related field and experience in professional development coaching.
Experience Requirements
- Early Childhood teaching experience and knowledge of Creative Curriculum for Preschool or Infant/Toddlers.
- Obtain and retain CLASS Assessor Reliability certification.
- Experience in applying adult learning principals.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Knowledge and experience in data analysis.
- Ability to work with a diverse population of professional and para-professional teaching staff.
- Ability to communicate effectively to accomplish program goals.
- Empathy for low-income families.
Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Must obtain pre-employment physical and screen for communicable diseases.
- Able to provide reliable transportation and proof of liability insurance.
- Able to travel in eight-county service area and attend out-of-state conferences.
- Demonstrate willingness to continue professional development.
- Assume additional responsibilities as assigned by Education Manager and/or Program Director.
